How many different types of photography are there? There are many different themes and genres within photography as its developed. These include documentary, portraiture, landscape, street photography, fashion and wildlife photography. These all have different elements within them and different techniques are used to create the desired effects, such as the use of film, photograms, scanography and digital photographs. They are also all different environments in which they are taken, for example street photography is generally out on the street with a much more natural environment whereas fashion photography is a lot more staged.

Photography helps us see the world in a different way. We see the world through other peoples points of views and in ways that we ourselves would never be able to. The way we may see or photograph is completely different to the way someone else will and through looking at other peoples work we can broaden our views.
Photography also helps us see the world in a much more physical way, through things such as google earth. Google Earth provides us with the ability to look anywhere in the world whilst sitting at our computer. We are also able to, with a simple google search, look at photographs of many places around the world, for example if you wanted to go on holiday and were doing some research of the area first. |
When something is put on the internet, it can not be taken down. This means that privacy needs to be taken into consideration when photos are being taken. If something shouldn't be seen then it shouldn't be photographed. Also, if you are somewhere which specifies no photography/flash photography, such as a museum, then this should be respected and photos should not be taken. There is regularly controversy on images taken in places of crisis where people say the photographer should've intervened instead of simply taking a picture of it. Others say that these types of photos can create a stronger impact and help with the problems which are happening around the world. Whether it is OK to take a picture is often down to personal opinions.

I think that it depends on the type of photographs the photographer is taking, for example street photography and documentary may not be seen so much as art but instead as a way of showing the world what is happening around them. For photographs which are staged and more thought out and planned then they may be seen as more of a visual art form because they required imagination, planning and time to create them, much like any painting or drawing. |

I'm interested in street photography. This is because the photographs are a lot more natural and it helps you to see different people going about their lives . I find it interesting to see how people vary and how everyone has similar and different characteristics in the way they behave and move. Photography catches someone's expression within a second, and what's on their face could pass so quickly you would never normally see it. Street photography helps you to see cultures around the world and how different places change.
Macro photography also interests me to look at because of the detail you get in something you would otherwise not be able to see. There are many things which the human eye can not naturally see and through macro photography we can not only see these things, but we can see them in extreme detail. Photography shows us many things in many different ways that we will never be able to look at ourselves and I think macro is a great example of this. |
